Energy Mix

Energy companies try not to be too dependent on one fuel supply. They use electricity from lots of different sources such as gas, nuclear and coal. Each company uses a different proportion of the different fuels and this is known as their Energy Mix. The graph below shows the different energy mixes for the UK electricity providers.

Many energy companies have been using renewable power sources for decades, most of which comes from hydroelectric dams. They simply need to adjust the amount of renewable power they introduce to the mains in order to supply your demand. Others buy the available renewable energy and supply it as their own. The most pro active companies invest a proportion of the money you give them to install more renewable energy power stations.
